1. Technical Assistant โ€“ B2/B3 (X4)

Salary & Benefits

Salary: P65,508 โ€“ P76,908 per annum
Leave: 20 working days per annum

Benefits include:

  • Optional Medical Aid Scheme through BPOMAS, with Government paying 50% and the employee 50%.
  • Contributory Pension Fund, with Government contributing 15% and the employee 5%.

Qualifications

Applicants should have:

  • World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Class IV course in Meteorology, OR
  • Other evidence of successful initial training in a functional area considered equivalent to WMO Class IV.

Experience: N/A.

Main Purpose

The position is responsible for maintaining continuous observation of weather developments and recording meteorological observations according to procedures prescribed by the World Meteorological Organization.

Key Responsibilities

Successful candidates will:

-Make visual observations of meteorological parameters according to WMO procedures.

-Issue routine meteorological reports and forward them to end users.

-Encode observed meteorological data into standard formats.

-Perform basic quality control on meteorological data.

-File meteorological journals.

-Launch weather balloons for upper-air observations.

-Record significant weather developments occurring during shifts.

-Maintain station logbooks.

-Record occurrences such as power failures and unserviceable instruments.

-Perform minor maintenance of instruments at the station.

2. Assistant Project Officers (X2)

Employment Details

Number of Posts: 2
Salary: P10,500 per month
Contract: 12 months
Leave: 25 working days per annum
Gratuity: 25% of contract earnings

Qualifications

Applicants must have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Physics with Meteorology or a related discipline.

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year relevant experience in project implementation or financial administration.
  • Knowledge of Botswana Government financial procedures and environmental governance will be an added advantage.

Main Purpose

The role will help strengthen institutional capacity for timely and efficient implementation of Montreal Protocol-related activities, including project implementation, financial management, data reporting, stakeholder engagement and awareness raising.

Key Responsibilities

Successful candidates will assist with:

  • Developing annual work plans, budgets and reports for Montreal Protocol projects.
  • Supporting training workshops for Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (RAC) technicians, customs and enforcement officers.
  • Data collection, analysis and timely reporting to the Ozone Secretariat and Multilateral Fund.
  • Stakeholder consultations and awareness campaigns.
  • World Ozone Day activities.
  • Enforcement of Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) Regulations.
  • Monitoring import and export licences.
  • Integrating gender considerations into project activities.
  • Maintaining sex-disaggregated participation data.
  • Performing other duties assigned by the National Ozone Officer.

Competencies

  • Computer proficiency, including MS Office, Excel, PowerPoint and data tools.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
