Main Purpose of the Gardener Position

The main purpose of the position is to develop and maintain gardens and grounds and ensure the general upkeep of the physical environment.

Responsibilities

Successful Gardeners will be responsible for maintaining the grounds and gardens. Duties include:

  • Sweeping yards and clearing litter.
  • Maintaining trees, lawns and flowers.
  • Regularly watering gardens.
  • Treating cultivated soil with fertilizer.
  • Pruning trees.
  • Mowing grass.
  • Weeding.
  • Treating plants with pesticides and insecticides.
  • Implementing sustainable measures to keep gardens in good condition in consultation with the supervisor.
  • Requesting and collecting gardening supplies.
  • Maintaining an inventory of gardening tools, pesticides and insecticides.
  • Loading and dumping litter and refuse at designated points.
  • Taking refuse to approved Council disposal points.
  • Determining when seedlings are ready for transplanting or following planting instructions.
  • Preparing seedbeds, including tilling soil.
  • Sowing flower seeds and regularly watering seedbeds.
  • Preparing and cultivating plots for planting trees and flowers in consultation with the supervisor.
  • Checking fences and reporting defects requiring maintenance.
  • Performing other related duties assigned by management.

Qualifications and Requirements

Minimum Primary School Leaving Examination Certificate (PSLE).

The experience requirement is:

Direct Entry.
