Chloride Exide Botswana (Pty) Ltd is inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for a Maintenance Technician vacancy based in Gaborone, Botswana.
The position is suitable for an enthusiastic and self-motivated candidate with an Electrical Engineering background and practical experience maintaining equipment within a busy production environment.

Minimum Requirements
Applicants should have:
-A Diploma in Electrical Engineering and/or Electrical Trade C qualification.
-At least 3+ years of factory maintenance experience within a busy production environment.
-Electrical fault-finding and repair experience.
-Knowledge and experience with pneumatic systems.
-Knowledge and experience with hydraulic systems.
-Knowledge of automated PLC systems.
-Working knowledge of computer-integrated controls.
-Ability to perform general mechanical repairs.
-Ability to interpret electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic diagrams.
-Willingness to attend to after-hours call-outs when required.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Perform electrical fault finding and repairs.
- Carry out electrical DB board cleaning.
- Perform basic pneumatic fault finding and repairs.
- Perform basic hydraulic fault finding and repairs.
- Conduct general mechanical repairs.
- Interpret electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic diagrams.
- Carry out periodic equipment audits.
- Determine spare parts required for machinery.
- Conduct inventories of critical spare parts when required.
- Identify required spares and arrange procurement with relevant suppliers through the Engineering Manager.
- Assist the Factory Manager, Production Manager and production team in achieving optimum machine settings during equipment commissioning.
- Support the efficient operation and maintenance of production machinery.
- Ensure relevant statutory requirements and legislation are complied with.
- Participate in the company’s health and safety activities.
- Report directly to the Engineering Manager.
Skills and Knowledge
Suitable candidates should demonstrate:
- Strong electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Knowledge of industrial electrical systems.
- PLC and automated system knowledge.
- Pneumatic and hydraulic troubleshooting abilities.
- Basic mechanical repair skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a busy production environment.
- Good technical problem-solving ability.
- Self-motivation and reliability.
- Ability to respond to equipment problems outside normal working hours when required.
