Job Overview
The Telehandler Operator will be responsible for safely operating a telehandler (telescopic handler) to lift, transport, load and unload heavy materials, tools and equipment across the mining site. The successful candidate will support mining operations, maintenance activities and logistics while ensuring compliance with all safety procedures and operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
-Safely operate a telehandler to transport pallets, pipes, containers, equipment and other materials.
-Conduct daily pre-start inspections and report mechanical faults or safety concerns.
-Load and unload trucks and storage areas using approved telehandler attachments.
-Support maintenance teams during shutdowns by lifting and positioning equipment.
-Maintain accurate records of fuel usage, operating hours and daily inspection checklists.
-Comply with site safety procedures, lifting protocols, traffic rules and PPE requirements.
-Ensure the telehandler is cleaned, parked and secured at the end of each shift.
-Assist with manual handling duties when required.
-Report incidents, hazards and near misses promptly.
-Follow instructions from supervisors and signallers when operating in confined or restricted work areas.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants should have:
- BGCSE Certificate.
- A Certified Telehandler Operator Licence from an accredited training provider.
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience operating telehandlers or similar lifting equipment in mining, construction or heavy industrial environments.
- Experience working around mobile plant equipment and in confined spaces.
- Experience on multi-functional mining sites or shutdown projects will be an added advantage.
- Good understanding of safe lifting practices and equipment inspections.
- Strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
