Overview

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is recruiting Security Guards to protect our people, property and assets in line with the Private Security Industry Regulations Act 56 of 2001 (as amended). You will deter and detect crime, manage access control, investigate disturbances, and support safe daily operations while delivering professional customer service.

Key Responsibilities

-Conduct visible patrols; identify suspicious activity; intervene within legal authority and SOPs.

-Manage access control for pedestrians/vehicles; search personnel, suppliers and merchandisers where required.

-Monitor CCTV, alarms and emergency/detecting equipment; respond swiftly to incidents.

-Safeguard premises during opening/closing; ensure doors, windows and taps are secured.

-Perform vehicle and personnel searches; complete registers and occurrence books accurately.

-Investigate and report damage, unlawful entry, shrinkage and other risks; compile detailed written reports.

-Liaise with SAPS/emergency services and escalate per procedure.

-Maintain customer-friendly presence; assist guests, customers and employees professionally.

-Support refuse removal checks; enforce security rules to prevent losses before they occur.

-Provide on-scene support during evacuations, crises and first response events.

-Share ongoing security advice and safety tips with staff as appropriate.

Minimum Requirements

Essential

–Grade 12 (Matric) / Senior Certificate.

–PSIRA Grade C accreditation & active registration.

-± 3 years general exposure in the retail environment (malls, warehouses, stores).

-Proficient in English (read, write, speak).

Advantageous

1+ year specific experience as a Security Guard in a similar retail role.
Additional South African language(s).

Competencies

Sound PSIRA knowledge.
Fire emergency, Health & Safety exposure.
Strong observation, reporting and problem-solving.
Customer service orientation; clear communication; integrity and reliability.
Ability to act decisively under pressure and follow SOPs precisely.

Special Conditions of Employment

PSIRA registered; Grade C accreditation.
South African citizen; MIE checks (clear criminal & credit).
Able to work retail hours (shifts, weekends, public holidays).
Physically fit (standing, walking, searching, patrolling).
Driver’s licence & reliable transport (PDP when deployed as a driver).
