Overview

Dis-Chem Pharmacies has 6 opportunities available for Dispensary Support learners across different locations. This role is aimed at employing learners who can complete the Basic Pharmacist Assistant Course as per SAPC requirements. Once registered as a learner basic assistant and successfully qualified, candidates may be offered permanent employment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 medicines under pharmacist supervision.
  • Support compounding, manipulation, and preparation of non-sterile medicines per SOP.
  • Unpack and merchandise stock; maintain OTC and dispensary shelves.
  • Learn to interpret prescriptions and ensure accurate picking, packing, labelling, and dosage checks.
  • Assist with stock control (expiry dates, organisation, cleanliness).
  • Handle script tracking reports, follow-ups, and patient service calls.
  • Support scheme authorisations for chronic, HIV, oncology, and related medication.
  • Report stock errors or shortages.
  • Participate in dispensary housekeeping and compliance tasks.

Requirements & Skills

Essential:

  • Matric (Grade 12) with:
    • Pure Mathematics (minimum 50%)
    • Life Science and/or Physical Science
    • Overall 50% average
  • Must pass Dis-Chemโ€™s proficiency test to register with SAPC.
  • South African citizen.

Competencies:

  • English + second language proficiency.
  • Strong time management, attention to detail, and customer service orientation.
  • Computer and numerical literacy.
  • Professional conduct, honesty, and accountability.

Advantageous:

  • Retail FMCG or front shop experience.
  • Knowledge of Unisolv, SAP, or E-scripting.
  • Familiarity with drug, family planning, and complementary medicine.
