Job Overview
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is offering an exciting opportunity for 10 Dispensary Support Learners across multiple stores nationwide.
This programme is designed for candidates who want to complete the Learner Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification and build a long-term career in the pharmaceutical environment.
Successful applicants will be employed on a fixed-term contract as Dispensary Support until they are registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as Learner Basic Assistants. Permanent employment may be offered upon successful qualification.

Minimum Requirements
Essential:
- Grade 12 / Matric
- Pure Mathematics 50%, Life Sciences and/or Physical Sciences with an average of 50%
- South African citizen
- Clear criminal and credit record
- Willingness to complete the Learner Basic Pharmacist Assistant programme
- Successful completion of the SAPC proficiency test
Key Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, you will:
– Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 medicines
– Support the preparation of non-sterile medicines according to SOPs
– Assist with unpacking, merchandising, and cleaning of dispensary and OTC shelves
– Learn to accurately interpret prescriptions in line with legal requirements
– Pick, pack, label, and check medication accurately
– Assist with stock control, expiry date checks, and shelf organisation
– Follow up on patient scripts and assist with patient service calls
– Support chronic, HIV/AIDS, oncology and scheme authorisations
– Report low or out-of-stock items to the Dispensary Manager
– Receive dispensary stock according to Dis-Chem SOPs
– Perform additional duties as assigned by the Dispensary Manager
Competencies & Skills
Essential:
- Proficient in English and at least one additional language
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Computer literacy and basic numeracy
- Honest, professional, and trustworthy
Advantageous:
- Retail / FMCG experience (especially Dis-Chem front shop)
- Knowledge of complementary medicine and family planning
- Exposure to Unisolv, SAP, or e-Scripting systems
- Third language proficiency
