Overview
Retail stores across South Africa are currently recruiting General Assistants to support daily store operations. The purpose of this role is to ensure excellent customer service, maintain merchandising standards, and keep store areas clean and organised.
Successful candidates will assist customers, maintain shelves and displays, support stock management, and ensure a safe and efficient shopping environment.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service
– Assist customers with product enquiries and provide helpful advice.
– Resolve customer queries or escalate complaints when necessary.
– Maintain a friendly and professional attitude when assisting customers.
Merchandising
– Ensure shelves are properly stocked and displayed according to store layout plans.
– Maintain accurate shelf price labels within the assigned area.
– Ensure stock is packed and merchandised immediately after receiving.
Housekeeping
– Maintain a clean and organised work area.
– Ensure aisles remain clear for customers to move safely through the store.
– Complete cleaning checklists for designated areas such as staff facilities.
Safety and Compliance
- Follow occupational health and safety (OHSA) regulations.
- Ensure merchandise is safely stacked and stored.
- Report safety hazards or discrepancies to the Store Manager.
Stock Control
- Report damaged or missing stock.
- Assist with stock handling and basic inventory control when required.
Requirements & Skills
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 10 (NQF Level 3) with at least 1 year relevant work experience, or
- Grade 12 (Matric) with no prior experience.
- Valid South African ID or work permit.
- Ability to perform basic calculations accurately.
- Ability to communicate in English and the dominant language of the local area.
- Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
- Ability to work under pressure.
