Overview

Retail stores across South Africa are currently recruiting Cashiers to support point-of-sale operations and ensure excellent customer service. The purpose of the role is to handle transactions accurately while maintaining proper documentation and ensuring that all goods processed at the Point of Sale (POS) are correctly paid for.

Successful candidates will assist customers during checkout, manage cash transactions responsibly, and maintain high standards of accuracy, administration, and security.


Key Responsibilities

Cash Handling

– Operate the Point of Sale (POS) system accurately when processing transactions.

– Ensure all items scanned and processed are correctly recorded.

– Receive and process payments from customers using the correct payment method.

– Ensure sufficient change is available at all times.

– Balance daily cash, floats, and petty cash without shortages or overages.

– Complete cash-ups and ensure daily takings are deposited into the drop safe or vault.

– Process transactions related to deliveries, quotes, or other store-related payments accurately.

Administration

  • Maintain and file all relevant cashier documentation.
  • Complete all required reports and documentation accurately.

Customer Service

  • Provide fast, friendly, and efficient service to customers during checkout.
  • Direct customers to the appropriate staff member when further assistance is required.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and comply with store dress code standards.

Safety and Security

  • Follow Occupational Health and Safety (OHSA) requirements.
  • Maintain password security and safe handling of cash at the till.
  • Report any discrepancies or suspicious activities to the Store Manager.

Requirements & Skills

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 (Matric) or at least 1 year of relevant work experience.
  • Ability to communicate in English and the dominant language of the local area.
  • Strong administrative and organisational skills.
  • Ability to perform basic calculations accurately.
  • Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
