Job Overview

Dwarsrivier Chrome Mine, a values-driven and people-focused mining operation, invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of Miner (C2). The mine is a world-class producer of chrome ore, located approximately 60 km from Lydenburg and 40 km from Burgersfort in Limpopo.

The successful candidate will report to the Shift Overseer (or nominee) and will be responsible for the safe and effective execution of underground mining and blasting activities in line with mine standards, safety legislation, and operational targets.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Grade 10 / Standard 8 Certificate
  • Blasting Certificate for Scheduled Mines OR
  • National Certificate: Hard Rock Underground
  • Valid Code 08 (B) Driverโ€™s Licence

Advantageous:

  • Competent A & B Certificate
  • Blasting Assistant Certificate

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 yearsโ€™ practical trackless mining experience
  • Previous underground mining experience will be advantageous

Key Responsibilities

– Execute and supervise blasting and mining activities during a shift

– Ensure continuous inspection of workplace conditions and enforce safe work practices

– Conduct gas testing, ventilation checks, and evacuations where required

– Oversee barring of hanging walls, sidewalls, and faces

– Supervise drilling, charging, and blasting activities according to mine standards

– Manage explosives handling, storage, and disposal in compliance with regulations

– Install and oversee temporary and permanent support systems

– Identify and address hazardous or substandard conditions immediately

– Ensure pre-use inspections of all equipment are conducted

– Maintain accurate shift handover reports and incident records

– Ensure housekeeping standards are upheld at all times

– Investigate incidents and implement preventative measures


Health, Safety and Compliance

  • Adherence to the Mine Health and Safety Act (Act 29 of 1996) is mandatory
  • Successful candidates must be medically fit for underground mining
  • Criminal and credit checks may be conducted
