Job Purpose

The Shop Assistant is responsible for delivering excellent customer service while supporting sales growth and store performance. The role focuses on assisting customers, maintaining store standards, and contributing to daily retail operations.


Key Responsibilities

Customer Service & Sales

– Greet and assist customers in a friendly and professional manner

– Provide product knowledge, recommendations, and styling advice

– Actively upsell and cross-sell to improve UPT, ATV, conversion, and turnover

– Promote and explain available payment options, including Payflex, PJN, and Happy Pay

– Represent the GALXBOY brand by adhering to uniform, grooming, and professionalism standards

Visual Merchandising

  • Maintain product presentation through steaming, tagging, pricing, folding, and replenishing stock
  • Follow visual merchandising guidelines to ensure an attractive and consistent store layout
  • Ensure products are correctly placed, priced, and easily accessible

Stock Control

  • Keep the stockroom organised and ensure merchandise is stored correctly
  • Monitor stock levels and report best sellers, sell-outs, and replenishment needs to management

Daily Operations & Housekeeping

  • Process customer transactions accurately using the POS system
  • Handle cash, card, and alternative payment methods responsibly
  • Adhere to timekeeping, attendance, and roster requirements
  • Maintain a clean, neat, and orderly store environment

Requirements & Skills

  • Grade 12
  • Computer literacy
  • 1โ€“2 yearsโ€™ experience in a retail environment (preferred)
  • Knowledge of basic retail practices
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced retail environment
  • Higher education qualification (advantageous)
