Job Overview

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is recruiting Security Guards for its KwaZulu-Natal retail stores. The successful candidates will be responsible for providing effective security services in line with the Private Security Industry Regulation Act (Act 56 of 2001), ensuring the protection of company assets, staff, and customers while maintaining a safe and secure retail environment.


Key Responsibilities

– Conduct regular patrols to deter and detect criminal activity

– Monitor and control access points for staff, customers, suppliers, and vehicles

– Enforce access control procedures, including searches where required

– Identify, investigate, and report suspicious behaviour or incidents

– Maintain accurate security registers, occurrence books, and reports

– Ensure compliance with opening and closing security procedures

– Monitor alarm systems, CCTV, and emergency equipment

– Assist during emergencies, evacuations, and incidents in coordination with management and emergency services

– Protect company property and assets from loss, theft, or damage

– Provide professional, courteous assistance to customers and staff

– Ensure health, safety, and fire regulations are adhered to at all times


Minimum Requirements

Essential:

  • Grade 12 / Senior Certificate
  • Grade C PSIRA registration
  • Minimum of 3 yearsโ€™ exposure in a retail security environment (e.g. shopping centres or warehouses)

Advantageous:

  • At least 1 year experience in a similar security role
  • Additional language proficiency

Competencies & Skills

  • Strong knowledge of PSIRA regulations
  • Understanding of fire safety and occupational health and safety procedures
  • Ability to remain alert, calm, and decisive under pressure
  • Good communication skills in English (read, write, and speak)
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and accountability

Special Conditions of Employment

  • Valid PSIRA registration (Grade C)
  • South African citizenship
  • Clear criminal and credit record (MIE)
  • Valid driverโ€™s licence and own reliable transport (PDP required when deployed as a driver)
  • Willingness to work retail hours, including weekends and public holidays
